Alexander McDougall of the Yorkstone Hotel Royal Mint Street Tower Hill in the city of London at present without employment.

Humbly your Petitioner
states that he is a native of Scotland and is 32 years of age. Humbly on or about the 18th day of October 1877 your Petitioner joined the Hong Kong Police Force being selected for that purpose from the City of Glasgow Police in which force he had been for upwards of nine years previous to the said 18th day of October 1877.
Also served
That at the expiration of 10 years service in the Hong Kong Police your Petitioner would be entitled to one fourth part of his pay annually as a life pension and that your Petitioner has served 9 years 6 months & 22 days viz from the 18th day of October 1877 to the 10th day of May 1887.
That during such period your Petitioner has acted in the said Police Force at various times as Police Constable, Telegraphist and a member of the Fire Brigade, respectively and that he holds a medal for Meritorious conduct displayed, but
further that in the month of February year 1878 Your Petitioner was severely wounded in resisting a burglarious attack made in a Goldsmith's Shop in the City of Hong Kong which said wound rendered your Petitioner incapable of performing manual labour.
On the 16th day of May 1887 your Petitioner was stationed at Kowloon in the Colony of Hong Kong together with a Police Constable named Schmidt under a Serjeant named Butlin,
At 30 minutes past 10 on the evening of that day your Petitioner was asleep in his room as he was off duty and had to resume duty at midnight. At 30 minutes past 10 your Petitioner was aroused by the Serjeant and Police Constable Schmidt and was accused by them of being intoxicated. Your Petitioner being perfectly sober was removed by them to a Police Cell and there locked up until...
