I note that in the event of failure to accept that offer, the said sum will be paid to W.V. Stephens' credit, and the rent due from him will from time to time be taken from it until the amount be exhausted.

With reference, however, to the threat that in the latter event happening (namely the amount being so exhausted) if not therefore the rent be paid, the Government will be compelled to exercise its right of re-entry in respect of the Lot in question, I admit that the Government has such right of re-entry given.

I very much regret to hear your expression that this consequence may follow, as you may be aware it was brought to His Excellency's notice that W.V. Stephens took whatever steps he could, but dependent upon the proceedings merely being taken in the Supreme Court, in which he was compelled to defend as lessee of the Crown, by the advice of the Attorney General.
