As we cannot believe that you would have written to us in the way you did had H.C. the Governor not really intended to release our client we would respectfully urge the Administrator to at once cancel his warrant of the 7th August and give directions to the Superintendent of Police to release Chan Jik Cheong this evening.

We have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No. 1393 of this date intimating your intention to discharge the prisoner Chan Jik Cheong alias Ching Sam.

On behalf of the Viceroy of the Two Kwang, we beg that the order of discharge may be suspended for 48 hours in order that the views of the Chinese Government upon the subject may be submitted to the Governor.
