the right of the 7th November 1886. After that I did not see him again until I saw him in the Victoria Gaol with reference to his being remitted to the Chinese Government. I saw him in gaol on 29th June 1887.
Prisoner says the men who turned back and fought with us had a black woollen jacket and a pair of black trousers which he wore. One was armed with firearms and sword - firearm in his hand, firearms round his waist and a sword round his waist. "I have seen him four times in my life, first on the night of the robbery, second in Victoria Gaol, third when I was examined before the Magistrate and fourth to-day and in cross-examination.
I don't know whether the shot that struck me came from the defendant. He had firearms and did fire. I can't say that the shot that hit me came from him or he might have fired past me. One was when they just turned and aimed their revolvers at me. I was struck and fell. I never saw him before that night. That was the first time I saw him. The second time I saw him was in Victoria Gaol. I did not know who he was when he turned round and aimed at me.
