Colonial Secretary's Office, Hong Kong, 9, 24th August, 1887.

Gentlemen,

I have the honour, by directions of His Excellency the Acting Governor, to request that you will be so good as to enquire what description the Chinese witness, who called himself Je Loi, the agent of the Chinese Government in the pending Extradition Case, gave of himself on being sworn in the witness box. Some questions as to the rank of Li Loi render this enquiry necessary.

I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,

Your most obedient servant,

H. Frederick Stewart

Acting Colonial Secretary

The Police Magistrates
