it better, before taking further steps to write to make sure that he is really responsible for the misdescription and that
the consequence of
it is not due to
some confusion between him and his superior, the Colonel
of the Shunte
in charge of
district who is also called Hi,
and who is the prime
mover in the matter; Acting Captain
Li being merely sent to Hong Kong to see
that the witnesses
were
on the spot when required, and to take charge of the criminals should the Colonial Government consent to their
rendition.

that I have received a
report
from Colonel Li of Shute stating
that on the 19th of February
a telegram
was
forwarded
to him by Acting Captain Ly to the effect that foreign soldiers at Hongkong had arrested the three leading criminals Fêng Li Yie,
Chiran,
Không
Sam
Taoshu-heir alias
Thing
and Lin Ashih and that
they had been locked up.
The Acting Captain likewise came to Hong Kong and
stated verbally that he was to proceed with witnesses and
