With reference to your letter No. 1 of the 18th instant, and to previous correspondence respecting the pending Rendition Case, I am directed by the Officer Administering the Government to state that His Excellency hopes that His Excellency the Viceroy was not cognizant that Li Loi, his envoy, was assuming before the Government and its tribunals a higher position than he was entitled to, either for personal motives, or in order to carry greater weight in the matter.
