12 of 1856 Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, which relate to Chinese Cemeteries and Sections 12 & 13 which enact that the English Law of nuisances shall extend to and be in force in this Colony and also
orders and regulations of the General Board of Health of England as the Governor in Council shall,
from time to time determine shall also extend
to and be enforced here.
(6.) No 8 of 1858 Sect: 18-17 and Sec:
8 of 28 Sub-sect. 6 which provide for lodging of Chinese labourers and Coolies and inspection of the premises
provided for that purpose.
(c.) No 10 of 1872 Sects. ... which regulate the carrying on of offensive
and dangerous trades.

In Section 3, which is the definition clause the definition of a
new
building therein given and which is taken from The Metropolitan Building
Act
gave
rise to
opposition
on the part of the Unofficial Member who asked that only such houses should be taken down to an extent
exceeding two thirds should be reckoned new buildings.
This, if accepted, would have permitted the perpetuation of a great number of houses, which, it is most desirable, should be
entirely rebuilt if possible, and of which, if the ... amendment had been accepted, the
upper story alone would have been taken down and rebuilt, with an
additional story, leaving the present ground floor with all its faults.
