I should mention that the premiums on Crown Land sales obtained during the first nine months of the current year have already amounted to $105,000 and that it is estimated they will amount to $130,000 before the expiration of the year, so that for 1887 the Surveyor General's fees of office from this source would have been $1,300 or thereabouts.

Enclosure. C. 2. 107 21078 Public Works Department, Hongkong, 16th September, 1887.

Last year I had the honour to submit, for transmission to the Secretary of State, an application for a small increase to my pension, whenever I came to retire from the Service, in view of my having voluntarily relinquished certain emoluments of Office.

As eight months have elapsed since this letter was forwarded to the Colonial Office by Sir William Marsh, and no reply to the matter has been received, it is doubted that it has been overlooked, and no answer will now be forthcoming.

The Hon: F. Stewart, LL.D. Acting Colonial Secretary
