Enclosure 1.
362
Mr Kyrie to Acting Colonial Secretary?
Sir,
REG: 31 487
Hongkong, 7th September, 1897
On behalf of the Peak Tramway Company, of which I am a director and one of the promoters, I beg to ask if His Excellency the Acting Governor will sanction our availing of the services of Mr. Brewer for inspecting the Engines and Carriages. It is a work he is well able to undertake, as he served his apprenticeship in a foundry where such engines are constructed. He will not be interfering with the business of any private person as there is no engineer here except himself who understands the work, which will only occupy a small portion of his time.
The Honourable
Newart, 24. D.
