Another deputation on the part of the Chinese Community was likewise received by me, a good, workable, conciliatory, bill being passed which will commend itself to Her Majesty's Government, which I explained the moderation of our proposals, and how ready we were to make every reasonable concession to private interests – whilst safeguarding the interests of the public in all essentials.
