soon as possible, of a Land Surveyor to the Public Works Department, whose duties
shall be primarily to do
"the work of the Land Office,
and to be employed
on other work when his
"services are not required
in connection with Land Office "work.

The Council advised
also that Mr James Sampson, who had been Land Surveyor under the Land Commission,
should be recommended
to you for this appointment, #2520 - at a salary of Two thousand Five hundred and Twenty-dollars per annum,
with an allowance for conveyance at
the rate of Two hundred and Eighty-eight dollars per annum.
6.
Mr. Sampson was trained in his profession by Mr. Price, and is fully competent for the post.
