• Acting German Consul to Acting Colonial Secretary

(Copy)

IN. 393.

Hongkong, 16th July, 1887.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 5th instant, No. 1030, in which you enquire whether I have received any instructions from Berlin respecting the Lunatic Marie Gance. In reply I beg to say that I have received despatches in which it is stated that a Marie Gaver is a native of Winterbach in the Kingdom of Wurttemberg and entitled to German protection: The father, who was a farmer, carrying on business in Eslingen, died there in 1870, whilst the mother is still living at Metz.

The Honourable S. Stewart, &c. &c. &c.

Acting Colonial Secretary
