We have the honour to inform you
that we have been instructed by our clients to apply an order calling on you
to the Supreme Court for
to pay into Court certain
the proceeds of
some opium which was taken by the Captain
of
"the D.D. Marie", and handed by him to the German Consul, and by him confiscated.
The opium
was
subsequently sold and an order of the Court attached in his hands, and he was
prohibited
from parting with the money.
At the request of A. Mollendorff, then German Consul, the matter stood in
abeyance for some little time to enable him to communicate with his Government at home,
the case is now ready
we
are
now ready to be proceeded with, but before taking any steps we take the opportunity of informing you of our instructions, as perhaps you may be willing to pay the money into Court, and then let the Judge decide who is entitled to it.
Awaiting your reply,
We have the honour to be
