In reply to your inquiry of the 11th instant, asking whether any orders have been received from His Britannic Majesty's Government with regard to the disposal of the proceeds of sale of smuggled opium, lawfully confiscated on high sea, on board of the German Steamer Marie, I have the honour to inform you,

1. that final instructions are expected only by the end of the present year; further communication with His Britannic Majesty's Government having become necessary on the subject.
