I have to acknowledge receipt of your letter No. 283 of yesterday's date with reference to Marine Lot #2 1844, informing me "that the Government is not prepared to make any compensation, as it does not recognize that any is due."
From this I conclude that the Government, notwithstanding the action of the Supreme Court, is satisfied that the Ground in dispute is mine, as being comprised in my lease, and consequently the question of compensation does not arise.
As it is necessary to be clear on this point, I shall be glad if the Administrator, as representing his Lessor the Crown, would state whether he has interpreted rightly the meaning of your letter now under acknowledgment.

With reference to your letter of the 2nd instant, respecting Marine Lot No.1844, I am directed by the Officer Administering the Government to acquaint you that, as you have been already informed that the Government is not prepared to pay you compensation, as it does not recognise that any is due, His Excellency considers that it is unnecessary to state the reasons of such decision, or to furnish any explanation in reference thereto.
