No 283.
Sin,
Hong Kong, February 28th 1887.
Continuing our correspondence with reference to Marine Lot 12184, and seeing that His Excellency the Administrator will not or cannot interfere to give me back the ground that has been taken from me,
I have now to ask if the Government of this Colony is prepared to make me full and fair compensation for all the losses I have sustained in consequence of what the Chief Justice has decided is the wrongful act of the Government in granting a piece of land to me which had already been granted to another person, Messrs.
The Honorable
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
Matthew S. P. Hopkins
(Signed)
Frederick Stewart, L.L.D.,

In answer to your letter of yesterday, respecting Marine Lot 1844, I am directed by His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government to inform you that the Government is not prepared to make any compensation, as it does not recognise that any is due.
Mr. S. D. Stephens, Esq.
