Whether the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 20th of April is to be understood as an order to Mr. Meade for deprecating, in his letter of the 23rd of April, the intemperance of the Executive Council with his conduct of the case, but I consider how wrong it was that he committed a grave error of judgement in reading an extract from the Opinion of the Acting Attorney General.

The extract from which had been communicated to him in the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 20th of April, and also in the course of his case, reading in Council, is the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 23rd of February and the disapproval of his conduct in that respect, which was conveyed in the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 30th of April, was in my opinion deserved.
