The Magistrate was advised not to be guided by the verdict in the case as it might be based on technical grounds, and that although he might have the evidence of one other witness which might satisfy him that the evidence of another was false, and therefore he would be justified in disbelieving the latter, yet it would not be possible, in the absence of two witnesses, to obtain a verdict of guilty of perjury.
