was adjourned, instead

of adjourning it as usual for another week, I adjourned

it only for

days

24th April, merely giving

enough time for

the parties

to the case to have their

witnesses in readiness, and

notice

I publicly gave that I would proceed

with the

case

on

Wednesday the 24th

April.

On that day I took

up the case where I had

left off on Friday

and concluded it. The accompanying

extract

from

the

China Mail of Wednesday

correctly reports what I said

on resuming.

THE CHINESE RENDITION CASE.

The case against the three men who are charged with robbery and murder within the Jurisdiction of the Emperor of China and whose rendition is asked by the Chinese Government was recommenced at the Magistracy this forenoon.

Mr J. J. Francis, Q.C., instructed by Mr Caldwell, of Messrs Caldwell and Wilkinson, appeared for the prosecution; Mr Holmes appeared for one prisoner and Mr Dennys, of Messrs Dennys and Mossop, for two prisoners.

Mr Wodehouse-The last evidence taken in this case was that of Inspector Quincey, which was to the effect that the witness, Leung Ayou, had been charged before the Police Magistrate with a crime arising out of this case, that evidence had been taken before the Magistrate, that the case stood remanded, that the charge brought was perjury and that the witness was being prosecuted by Mr Dennys as private prosecutor. After hearing that evidence I asked for the opinion of the representatives
