next to their premises, instead of the land on which the Naval Yard at Hongkong is situated, I have now the honour to forward, for your information and consideration, a copy of the reply which I have received to the letter which I addressed to Admiral Vesey Hamilton on the 5th ultimo, and of a further letter which I have sent to the Commodore on the subject; also a report of the Surveyor-General, on the letter of Commodore Morant.
2. I mentioned in my previous despatch that the Admiralty had requested, through Admiral Hamilton, that the land at Kowloong which they had asked for in 1885, and which was estimated at £46,700, should not be disposed of by the Colonial Government without giving them the refusal of it. I have now received an offer to purchase
