show that the Acting Governor was aware at that time

of the general rule in such cases matters, and

that the officers whose cases dealt with in

that dispatch were

to be regarded as exceptions

to the rule.

to make any further exceptions to the general rule except on special

grounds, but before

declining altogether

to entertain Dr Adami's

application, I should be

glad to know what other

officers of the Hongkong Government not required

to give their whole time to the public service

and whether any

such who had entered the

service between 1859

and 1879

had been granted or refused pension privileges
