The scheme involves the necessity of taking from the War Office Hill the 13,200 square feet shown tinted orange and marked A.

This orange portion marked A is the lowest part of the hill, the summit of which is situated at or near letter B, and therefore, the retention of the lower portion would be of comparatively minor value to the War Office. On this account, it is hoped that cession to the Admiralty would not be objected to by the Military Authorities.

The project also contemplates the absorption of the several private lots shown included in the area tinted red.

It is intended that the Colonial Government should, at its own cost, buy these from the owners and include them in the cession to the Admiralty.

As it will be quite impossible to close the public traffic along the western coast of the Peninsula, the Colonial Government cannot dispense with the public road running through the land to be ceded, and shown in dotted lines, but the course of this coast-road can be diverted from the position shown, either to the left or to the right, to suit Naval requirements. The branch road called the Austin Road should also be allowed to join the Coast Road shown in the tracing.

It will be seen that a portion of the land falls within the limit of the area which was recommended by the Defence Committee to be kept clear of buildings; but any Admiralty buildings hereafter erected on this particular portion of the ground...
