there was no urgent necessity for acquiring possession of this ground at present, but requested that the Colonial Government would not sell it without giving the refusal of it to the Admiralty. I am informed that a proposal will, before long, be made to the Government to purchase this land, and that a syndicate is now being formed for the purpose of subscribing the necessary capital to pay for its cost and to carry out the objects contemplated by the purchasers.

I would point out that the original estimate of the extension of the Praya was £45,000, and that the stipulations of the Admiralty and the objections raised by them to their property being separated by a public road from the water frontage, increased this estimate to £90,000, of ~
