Harbour Master to Acting Colonial Secretary :
(Copy.)
No. 2391.
Harbour Department, Hongkong, 31st August, 1886.
Sir,
In reply to your letter of the 28th inst., I have the honour to enclose a report from Harbour Master and another from the Acting Attorney General, from which it will appear that no new legislation is considered necessary in Hongkong.
I have the honour to be,

Enclosure 2: 17th March, 1886
No. 3545
(CO 2 MAY 87)
In reply to your letter No. 482 of the 28th ult., the following observations are submitted.
1. Enquiries into wrecks are provided for by Section XIII of Ordinance 8 of 1879.
2. There have not, as yet, been a Receiver of Wreck here, and we have not, as yet, suffered from the absence of one.
3. As regards salvage, the Vice Admiralty Court of the Colony would probably deal with such matters.
4. As the Secretary of State's Circular refers to legal effects, I respectfully suggest that a copy be sent to the Honourable Attorney General.
I have, &c.
SJ H. J. Thomsett
Harbour Master
The Hon'ble J. Stewart,
Acting Colonial Secretary.
