It has also to be considered that by the time that this prisoner has completed his sentence in the Hongkong Gaol, the witnesses now produced by the Chinese Government may be gone away.

These demands for extradition are causing much irritation on the part of the Chinese Government on account of the delay in the proceedings before the Police Magistrates. The prisoners always employ a lawyer to defend them; and, in a case now under enquiry, the Solicitor for the prisoners avowed his intention of calling thirty witnesses for the defence and putting every possible obstruction in the way of compliance with the application of the Chinese Government.
