Mr Price says: - Jam Surveyor General. Within the next twelve months we will require for the Saitam works about 15,000 barrels of cement. At the time of the complaint about the quality of the cement we wanted about 15,000 more! Complaints had been made.
There was a report on the cement, for the object was to call the attention of the Crown Agents to what appeared to be deterioration in the later consignments of the Robbin cement. The work depends mainly on the excellence of the cement used. It was deemed of great importance to keep the quality of the cement up to the earlier standard.
I fully approve of all that Mr Orange has written respecting the quality of the cement. Knowing as I do now all the circumstances of the case, I am satisfied that the grounds on which Mr Orange had reported were valid.
