despatch is on its way granting my request of 18th June last, that I may be permitted to retire. The death of Sir G. Strahan of which telegraphic news has been received will, I

suppose, not make

difference.

five weeks from this, as

the state of my

health

renders it desirable that

I should not pass the next hot season here. At the same

time, I beg to state that I hold myself entirely at the disposal of Her Majesty's Government.
