I regret to find that ill health incapacitates me from the proper discharge of the duties of First Clerk at your Office.
I have therefore the honour to apply that this my application be forwarded to His Excellency the Officer administering the Government.
I have to apply for three months' vacation leave from 5th February next; and that I may be granted permission to retire from the Service on the 5th May next; on which date I shall have completed 20 years' service.
I would beg leave to mention that I arrived in Hongkong on the 5th May, 1867, and joined the Police Force as Sergeant on the same date.
