the prisoners were all in a constant state. I was sent for the Acting Superintendent. Afterwards I found that when the prisoners had been locked up, they were shouting to the opposite side and when I spoke to them, they appeared very independent. No questions.

Hodge, recalled. The prisoners appear very submissive this morning. I attribute this change to the measures taken yesterday.

Sentenced to receive 18 strokes on the breech with a rattan, subject to medical certificate.
