I have kept these papers a long time, because this request for a large and valuable piece of Crown Land, can, in my opinion, be made the basis of exchange of properties with the Bishop: and the question in connexion with the property to be given up by the Church Missionary Society, was not ripe for consideration, until quite recently; inasmuch as it depended entirely on the feasibility of forming a new street which in its turn hinged on the practicability of getting certain excavations made by private land owners, free of cost to Government. The whole matter has now been put before His Excellency in a letter of yesterday's date, and I have to add that I would recommend the endowment of the Diocesan Home with a portion only of the land applied...
