The duties of the Colonial Surgeon have increased so much during late years that I think that the time has come to call upon him to give up private practice, and I have been in communication with Dr Ayres on the subject who is considering the matter. Dr Ayres performs all his public duties in a thoroughly conscientious and satisfactory manner, but he admits that the work is now too hard in combination with Private practice.
3. Another change in the Medical Department will shortly take place. Dr Adams, the Health Officer, informed me a few days ago that he intended soon to apply for leave on account of ill-health, which compelled him to take short leave to Japan last year.
