I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of 25th ult. on the subject of the new heavy armament approved for Hong Kong; and in reply to acquaint you, for the information of the Governor, that the guns and mounting have already been sent out and are in process of being mounted.
So regards the R.L. Guns, however, it has been found necessary to return the 6 inch to the manufacturers in order that they may be strengthened by being chase-hooped. It is hoped that they will be despatched to the station this month.
With reference to the 9.2 inch and 10 inch Guns, I am to state that as they are the first guns of this nature adopted...
