telegraphic reply the Yamen will proceed to send an Official to Hongkong, and from this time forward by the amicable discussion and treatment of matters of international character, the friendly and intimate relations between the two countries will be materially strengthened, a consummation which the Prince and ministers make no doubt will be thoroughly in accord with the wishes of H.B.M's Chargé d'Affaires

H.B.M's Chargé d'Affaires has the honour to acknowledge the receipt on the 8th inst. of a note from H. Highness and Their Excellencies in which they announce their desire to appoint a Consul to reside at Hongkong.

As requested by H.H and their Excellencies, H.B.M's Chargé d'Affaires has communicated this proposal by telegraph to H.M's Principal Secretary

His Highness Prince Ching and the ministers of the Tsangli Yamen
