I am directed by the Board of Trade to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 31st ultimo, transmitting a transcript of an Ordinance passed by the Legislature of Hong Kong entitled "An Ordinance to prevent the sale or conveyance on board ship of any spirituous or fermented liquor, and to prohibit the presence about ships of any persons hovering near them in boats for the purpose of selling or taking on board ship such liquor"; and requesting them to signify their opinion whether the Ordinance in question may properly be allowed to remain in operation.
