At a private meeting of Officers and Engineers, representing the employees of the different British Steam Ship Companies trading

on the Coast of China and Japan, held at the Temperance Hall, Hong Kong, on Tuesday, the 11th May, the following resolutions were

passed unanimously:

"That the employment of foreigners as

Officers and Engineers in the Mercantile Marine

is prejudicial to our best interests, politically

and commercially, and is not only seriously

affecting the seafaring class particularly,

but also the industrial classes at home".
