The Hospital could assist the Superintendent in the performance of the duties assigned to him. As there is no surgeon in the Colony who would apply for the post of Superintendent, I have the honour to request that one may be selected at home and sent out as soon as possible.

The salary originally assigned to Dr. Wharry fourteen years ago was $2,160, which was increased by a personal allowance to $3,000. The salary is very small, and I recommend that it be fixed at $2,400, rising by an increment of $200 every year to $3,000. The work is heavier now than it was fourteen years ago, and living is more expensive. The quarters provided are good but small, and not adapted to a man with a family.
