Inform Dr Wharry that in consequence of representations made by him in 1881 of "the additional medico-legal duties which he had been required to undertake" the Earl of Derby directed that he should be informed that he was of opinion that Dr Wharry "has not advanced strong grounds in support of his application for increase of pay, but that on the condition of his taking sole charge of the Civil Hospital, though the increase of accommodation may lead to a larger number of patients he will be ready to sanction increase of pay.
Since he has been in receipt of this increased pay the additional medico-legal duties of which he complained and which he used as the principal argument...
