2. On the 5th November last Dr Marques was taken ill, and was unable to attend to any of his duties : Dr Jordan, the Acting Colonial Surgeon, at once took over the greater part of his duties. At a requisition having been made by the Coroner for the examination of a dead body, Dr Jordan requested Dr Whany to perform this duty for his colleague. Dr Whany refused in the following terms :- "It is usual in such circumstances to obtain outside assistance from the Army Medical Staff elsewhere, a reasonable remuneration being paid by the Government for such assistance. I regret that I cannot comply with your request, as I have already more than sufficient work."
