In Yiu-shan and A-feng, not in Ting-hers, that he was one were the heads of the Triad Society and sub-director, and that they were connected with the Nien-sha (Kuci-shaw, steien) society, and had opposed the Imperial troops. He denies nothing. As An-fu-shan was a noted head of the Triad Society, he was hidden away and was last seen with others in a house at Hongkong. He escaped capture, and now that he has been arrested, brought to trial and convicted, the foregoing, full of crime, he is truly guilty and cannot escape punishment.
The majority of the members of these various societies have escaped to Hongkong and Macao where they now swarm. At Kowloon and other places robberies are increasingly committed, so that the prisoner should be taken back to receive the majesty of the law and the punishment due to his crimes, and thereby vindicate the law.
The undersigned will communicate with the Viceroy on this subject and he has handed over the prisoner, A-feng, a head member of the Triad Society, to the escorting officer Lun-tsi-ling to be taken back to the Camp, and he has also deputed Liang-sha-chih, a corporal in his right battalion, to bear with due reverence the death warrant.
In replying for my information, the General said that A-feng and Yiu-shan shall be put to death at Kowloon, in the presence of the death warrant on the day of punishment, and that such punishments be inflicted and that the date of execution shall be duly notified to the proper authorities.
