H. M. Consulate;

Canton, November 9th 1886.

I have been endeavouring since my arrival to obtain information in regard to the execution of the Triad chief, Hu Fung, kidnapped in Hongkong waters on the 10th October, and executed at Kowloon on the 28th.

From what I can learn, there seems little doubt that he was executed by order of General Fang, who holds authority to execute summarily any rebels captured by him in the course of the operations he is conducting for the maintenance of order in the eastern department of the Province.

The delay in the execution of the man was due to a letter being sent from Sir John Walsham, Bart. to General Fang.
