At 2 p.m. we were informed by the Chinese Authorities that if anyone wanted the body of U A-fung, U A-fung's mother, his wife, an old woman, and I, and 3 undertakers went to the beach at Kowloon City, but only found the body. This was on the 30th ult. On the 29th, the Chinese Authorities refused to let us have the body.
I heard this from U A-fung's mother. On the 30th ult., when we made enquiries at Kowloon City, we found that the beggars had hidden the head of U A-fung. We paid a tael and got back the head. I knew it was U A-fung's head by the features and the mark. I knew the body by a mark in the left palm under which I could feel a shot. I felt the shot on the 30th ult. We removed the body to Ma Tau Chung where I identified it in the presence of the Magistrate. The head and the body which I identified on the 30th ult. were the head and body of U A-fung, the man who jumped overboard from the launch and who was taken ashore at Kowloon City by Chinese soldiers on the 10th ult. No one else jumped overboard from the launch.
