The three floors 4. By inspection of the tracing it will be are the Lee that nowhere in the building do the closets adjoin wards, but are separated by intervening ventilating lobby with cross air-current or verandahs.
5. Having regard to the prevailing winds which blow during six months from the south west and the remaining six months from the north East which I would have preferred for the towers, had it been feasible, would have been at the extreme south-East and north-west corners of the building, owing to the extremely unfavourable configuration of the cliff, which comes close up to the building on the East, North and West sides, it was not possible to place the towers at these corners, and they had therefore to be built on the sites shown in the tracing.
6. Nor is there any valid objection to the present position of these detached towers, for it so happens that during the six months of the year when all the doors and windows of the wards are kept open for coolness, the wind is steady from the south-west, the towers being therefore to leeward of the wards.
7. It is true that on the other hand during the remaining six months of the year the prevailing winds are from the north East, this placing the towers to windward of the main building, but it so happens that during this season, i.e., the winter season, all the doors and windows of the wards are kept closed for the sake of warmth, thereby adding further to the improbability of any bad effect.
