Enclosure to C.O. 5167 filed in AN 31
Minute by the Surveyor General
1. The Hospital closets are the patent water closet sent out three months ago by the Crown Agents. Each closet has a flush of over one gallon. They are all in working order and the soil pipes being disconnected, trapped and ventilated, there is little possibility of sewer gas finding its way into the closets much less into the wards which are separated from the former by intervening open arcades or verandahs.
2. It is not, however, I am informed, to these sanitary details that Dr Wharry has objected. It is to the position which I selected for the towers containing the closets and lavatories.
3. I attach a tracing of one floor, which will show better than I can describe the position of the towers in relation to the main building.
