a large modern hotel, and are kept very clean. There was a total absence of disinfectant smell even on the day I visited the Hospital.
I regret to have to express my opinion that the remarks of Dr. Murray on this subject in his annual report have been invented to gratify his private animosity against the Surveyor General, Mr. Price. His annual report for 1883 was returned to him by order of Sir G. Bowen on account of the unbecoming language used by him in referring to other officials, and it was not published. The passage referred to was unfortunately not brought to my notice before his report for last year was sent to the Government Gazette.
I have the honour to be, Sir, Your Obedient Servant, Thomas Evans, Surgeon Major.
