Superintendent. A qualified apothecary and analyst has been appointed for the Hospital.
A steward has been secured at $500. A Chinese Clerk and two European Wardmasters have been appointed at increased salaries. DeMarques has been appointed to take charge of the medico-legal work of the public mortuary and has frequently afforded the Superintendent much relief in his duties at the inquest, and the Superintendent's request, enabling the Superintendent to enjoy the advantages of residence at the Peak for considerable periods.
I have also the honour to enclose copies of correspondence, Report of October (84), Col: relating to the alleged defective construction of the water closet and lavatories, which I personally examined a few weeks ago.
I can confirm the statements made in the report of the Surveyor General. These places are separated from the main building by open verandahs; they are broad and quite as good as would be found anywhere.
