only free of cost but with a
surplus of £25,000 to £30,000
profit.

Unfortunately General
Cameron, who, I must acknowledge is always most ready to cooperate with the Civil Government
in matters in which Civil and
jointly
Military interests are concerned, was unable to
approve of my proposal for the
reasons stated in his letter.
Had it not been for the fact that the removal of the
Barracks from their present site
has already,
on
two occasions
been advocated by Military
Men, I should not have made
the proposal to which General Cameron considers that it is
quite out of the question for
the War Office to assent.

The matter remains,
therefore in this position. The cost of the extension of the Kaya Wall originally estimated at £45,000 will in consequence of
the modifications insisted on
