War
Office
on the subject of the
extension of the Praya Wall, and
I have
now
the honour
to
forward for your information
copies of some correspondence
on the same
subject which
has taken place between
Major-General Cameron, the Officer Commanding the troops and myself.
It will be seen
that I laid before General Cameron
the 6th instant
a scheme
for his consideration
under which he would have
been able to surrender
to the
Naval Authorities
a portion of
the land on the water frontage
urgently required for the
extension of the Naval Yard;
he would have been able to
build barracks
on
a healthier site not only free of
cost but with a profit remaining
after the work was done; and the Civil Government would
have been able to
carry
out
the Praya Extension also without
expense.
