proprietor, and that 42 of these men had been sentenced by the Magistrate, and had appealed against the sentence, I have the honour to report that the Supreme Court quashed the sentence on the technical ground that the Police Regulations for a breach of which the defendants had been tried and convicted, had not been duly proved. I annex a copy of the Acting Attorney-General's report on this appeal. The Constables could have been tried again before the Magistrate but I did not think it advisable to take this step.
