I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 337 of the 16th ultimo, & to state that I have caused Sir William Des Voeux to be informed that I see no reason for interfering with the decision of the Hongkong Colonial Govt in refusing to Grant free passage to Alberti di S. Giovanni by land of himself & his family.
